The Rechtstreex scale link is a device that connects an everyday package scale to the Internet. The goal of this prototype is to connect a Dymo M10 scale to Rechtstreex’ ordering and invoicing database, so the true weight of the products can be automatically updated.
A ‘wijkchef’ might have ordered 3kg apples, but when the distributers are order picking, they might weigh 3,12kg apples. This new weight gets automatically updated in the backend, so there is no need for pen and paper, and lots of extra work is reclaimed.
The assignment was to build a testable solution with off-the-shelve components. Which is why I used a Raspberry Pi Zero with a Scroll pHat LED grid, an USB hub, and a Dymo M10 postal scale to create this prototype. The whole unit is powered via the USB hub.
The Scroll pHat is used to give the user some feedback on what is actually happening with the values. I programmed several messages for display, by simply turning pixels on or off.
